To the CEO of Home Depot:
I have tried several times to get hold of someone at corporate headquarters, but it seems impossible.
The Vice President (Big Mike!) of the local store in Blue Ridge, Georgia cannot or will not resolve this issue locally. Even HomeDepot.com staff is unable to resolve this issue.
I have called homedepot.com so many times I have lost track.
I spoke to Tiffany, Victoria, Wally, Shekatlyn (very helpful), Charles (rude, snappy and hateful) and someone named Big Mike (rude). I spoke to a few other people who didn't tell me their names.
I asked to speak to Blue Ridge Branch Manager Mike Gordon but "Big Mike" told me that wasn't going to happen!!!!!
At the time of writing this email, around 14.30, the problem was still not solved!
Doze situation:
I purchased a GE washing machine at our local Home Depot in Blue Ridge, Georgia. The machine does not work. I called the Home Depot in Blue Ridge for a replacement, but was told it was not a problem at the local store. I was told to call HomeDepot.com. However, there were so many problems with HomeDepot.com that I told them to forget the replacement and give me my money back.
After FOUR (4) calls I was finally able to speak with someone who reasonably knew what to do. I have scheduled collection today, Wednesday, April 19, 2023.
Victoria informed me that I would receive a call the day before giving me a FOUR (4) hour window for pickup. I have to say that this extended time frame benefits the delivery company and Home Depot's very poor customer service.
I gave Victoria my home phone number as a number to call to arrange pickup. I also requested that someone call at least thirty (30) MINUTES prior to arrival to allow us time to accommodate our dogs.
I never received a call to schedule a four (4) hour pickup, nor did I receive a call 30 minutes prior to delivery, giving us time to secure our dogs.
The boys arrived this morning, 19/04/2023 around 08:00 to pick up the washing machine. We were not ready for pick up because we did not receive a call to arrange pick up or to make sure our dogs were secured. Thank God the dogs outside were secured, but the dogs inside were not.
We had to secure the dogs, get the keys to the shed and our wheelbarrow and then take the washing machine outside, which took some time. My husband asked the delivery driver if he could borrow their handcarts. The delivery driver refused to lend us his wheelbarrow to move the machine!
Had we known the four hour period in advance that we were told, everything would have been ready and waiting. However, we never received a call to arrange the pickup time frame.
The pickup driver had to get right into the truck when we came out the door with the washing machine. My daughter told the driver to wait because we were coming out with the washing machine. The driver said he had waited long enough! He got in the truck and drove away!
I immediately called to have the driver return. I was told that Home Depot does not have the ability to call the driver. I was told that Home Depot arranges its deliveries and pickups with an outside vendor that is not affiliated with Home Depot.
I was told that the driver could not return (or in this case backup) as this was a policy of the delivery company and COULD NOT BE CHANGED.
I called HomeDepot.com and the local store in Blue Ridge GA. I spoke to eight (8) different people who did NOT know what to do to FIX this problem.
When I called HomeDepot.com, I asked to speak to a supervisor. I spoke with Charles, a manager at HomeDepot.com who is very rude to say the least. I asked to speak to his manager and was told that his manager does not speak to customers. Charles went on to say that Home Depot has policies. Charles explained that I might not agree with the guidelines, but they could not be changed.
I asked for the number to call corporate headquarters. Charles told me they didn't have a number for corporate headquarters. Charles explained that the company does not talk to customers, so I could either talk to him (Charles) or nobody. Charles also said that I could NOT call and talk to any executive that went up the chain to corporate headquarters.
Charles matter-of-factly informed me that pickup was scheduled for Friday, April 21st. Take it or leave it!
Charles said the earliest I could schedule the pick up was Friday as the pick up was not happening today!!!!
Charles continued that I could be wasting my time calling, but no matter who I spoke to the answer would be the same. Charles said he had eight (8) hours and did not care how he spent his time.
I asked Charles about the time frame for pickup on Friday. Charles said that Home Depot did not make these decisions and that I would be called the day before to set the time frame. I reconfirmed that my correct phone number was in the Home Depot system. Charles continued, "If I don't get a call by 7 p.m. 6:00 PM, I will call HomeDepot.com on April 18, 2023 to find out the time frame for myself!
Talk about CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!
DIY really applies to Home Depot's CUSTOMER SERVICE.
Home Depot DOES NOT UNDERSTAND the importance of CUSTOMER SERVICE!
Well, you can thank Charles for losing more customers. We have an organic family farm, a small private cattle ranch, a kennel boarding and maintenance business, a home and commercial painting business, and an auto restoration/painting business. We will not buy anything from Home Depot again!!
I don't care if we have to pay more for what we need. The Home Depot business is too boring for us. Home Depot doesn't care about its customers or employees.
The extra cost is worth the CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!
I have the safety videos from the pickup test. If you would like a copy of the videos please let me know.
YES GABRIEL!!!
Finally I got a call from Gabriel at the Blue Ridge GA store. Gabriel apologized for the lack of customer service and Home Depot's inability to resolve the issue.
Everyone I spoke to (except Charles and "Big Mike") was friendly and welcoming. They didn't know what to do but were still professional! Lack of employee knowledge is the boss's fault!
I hope Home Depot takes advantage of this situation to train their staff in CUSTOMER SERVICE.
The way a company works starts at the top!!!!!
To be able to carry out their tasks, the employees require thorough and continuous education and training from a knowledgeable person. Ongoing training keeps employees up-to-date on changes, new skills and the use of new technologies and acts as a refresher of previous training. Your EMPLOYEES are your greatest asset, you must train them.
Your customers keep your business going!!!! The company must treat customers with respect, dignity and courtesy and not as a waste of the manager's time and effort.
I'm sure I haven't written everything I discussed to solve this problem, but I have things to do today. I will not allow Home Depot's problem in our business operations to become mine.
have a blessed day
